MARCH 3, 2017 Newsletter

Dear OES Families,

Where did winter go? Where was the snow? It seems like spring has already arrived with all the warm weather we’ve had lately. Needless to say, don’t rule out “Old Man Winter” yet. Keep an eye out for weather changes and listen for any changes regarding school closings or early dismissal. In the meantime, we will continue to focus on finishing this school year with engaged learning in the classroom.

Lost and Found
Although we donated the lost and found items during Winter Break, our lost and found has again grown into another “mountain” of clothes. Don’t forget to write your child’s name in their clothing so we can find the owner. And please check our lost and found located in the Dining Hall.

Spring Break
Spring Break will be from March 17-26. Students will return to school on Monday, March 27th. Be sure your child reads every day for 20 minutes during Spring Break. You can also mix it up by having your child read a page and a parent/grandparent/sibling read a page. You also don’t have to be picky about what is being read…..just as long as your child is exposed to reading on a daily basis.

Dismissal Changes
Each student’s method of dismissal (bus, car, aftercare, etc.) should be consistent every day. In the event your child’s method of dismissal needs to be changed, parents must send in a note with their child. Emergency last minute changes must be called in prior to 3:00.

Severe Weather
In the event that school is in session during severe weather, we will follow these procedures (other situations will result in similar procedures as determined by the school administration):

Tornado Watch and Thunderstorm Warning: All students and staff will remain inside and continue class as usual.

Tornado Warning: All students, staff and parents in the building will proceed to the hallways for Tornado drill procedures.

In the event severe weather is occurring during arrival or dismissal, the administration may delay the unloading or loading of cars and buses to ensure the safety of students and staff. If possible, an automated phone message will be sent to notify parents.
